Placing pans around machine

This tool computes application variability at different swath widths for broadcast application equipment.

Set Up Collection Containers

  • Evenly space collection containers across the width of the machine.
  • Place one pan at the exact center of the machine path.
  • Remove pans as needed to accommodate wheel tracks.
     

Enter Pan Data

  1. Enter the total number of pans used to collect dispersed material, including any pans removed for tire clearance.
  2. Enter the pan spacing and select the appropriate units.
  3. In the table, enter the measured amount of material for each pan.
     

Missing Data

If a pan value is unknown (for example, if a pan was removed for tire clearance or material was spilled), select the checkbox next to the corresponding Pan Number. The calculator will estimate the missing value as the average of the adjacent pans.
 

Import and Save Data

Use the "Paste Data from Clipboard” button to import data from another file.
Use the “Save” and “Recall” buttons to store and retrieve data.
 

Generate and Analyze Plots

Click the “Generate Plots” button to analyze the data. Four plots are automatically generated:

  • Spread Pattern: Raw spread pattern data plotted against the distance from the center of the machine.
  • Normalized/Symmetric Pattern: Average of left-hand and right-hand data to better approximate overlapping passes.
  • CV vs. Swath Width: Shows the variation between adjacent machine passes. The Coefficient of Variation (CV) is a statistical measure of variation. A slider allows you to adjust swath width and see how CV changes.
  • Expected Distribution Between Swaths: Visualizes the expected distribution of material from the center of one pass to the center of the adjacent pass.
